Overview - WLAN Track
Wireless LANs are increasingly being deployed throughout China. By the end of 2003, there were about 1,800 hotspots. Growth potential of WLAN in China is expected to be significant. It is believed the market will grow 50% a year through 2006 and the number of hotspots may triple to 6,000 by 2008. High-speed wireless connectivity is not only important as a service to extend mobility but is also an attractive business proposition and a tool for carriers to compete with one another.
This track examines the progress of China’s WLAN rollouts, market effects, trends and future outlook. Sessions within this track addresses the latest standards developments, mesh technology, operator strategies, scalability and roaming, implementation issues in public and private settings, site preparation, business models and pricing, new applications, access terminals, billing and subscriber management, integration with 2.5G/3G networks, deployment and operational issues.
